Shirley Akers is a Free-lance Artist working from her rural Kansas studio. She is represented by and a member of the Lawrence Art Guild, www.lawrenceartguild.org; Topeka Art Guild Gallery, (785) 273-7646; Artists Associated of Topeka, Inc., and Osage County Artists and Craftsmen. Akers enjoys painting on location in and around the Kansas Flint Hills area with her current series of “Cows, Clotheslines, Fence Posts & Hay Bales,” which tell a story of her Kansas life. Her Creator, her Family and her Midwest roots are the foundation for her work. Shirley is prolific in a variety of media which gives her work interest and fun. She recently retired as adjunct art instructor for Allen County Community College in order to devote more time to building a volume of her art creations, to spend more time with her family and in her garden. Akers' works are in private and corporate collections locally and abroad. Her original designs vary in size, shape, and space from tiny miniatures to larger wall and floor murals.
