Originally from Nicaragua, a small country in Central America full of lakes, volcanoes and tropical rainforests, I have been imbued with its great artistic tradition. I try to visualize a tropical paradise and its colors, shapes and sounds. My garden and the countryside surrounding my home north of Lawrence provide the inspiration and colors for my paintings. My interest in other cultures, ancient and indigenous to the American and African continents, has intrigued me since I was a child. Some of the colors, patterns and motifs in my paintings come from the textiles, ceramics and mural arts of these cultures. I paint with oils, acrylics and watercolors, on everything from canvas to barns. The combination of these media gives me a wide range of flexibility to express ideas and textures.
