Toni Brou ("Brew") grew up in Dodge City KS and learned to love the creative process while watching her father make what he modestly dubbed "junk art" from found objects. Brou moved to Lawrence in '87 to complete a BFA in Design and Illustration. After graduation, she worked as a graphic designer for years, till a series of catastrophes propelled her toward the mantra, "The sun always rises." Brou abandoned graphic design and adopted her current fine folk art style, assembling whimsical celestial mixed media wall hangings. She is known for the titles of her works (often lines from hymns or rhymes written by the artist) which are positive meditations that hold broad appeal. Brou lives in Lawrence with her Three Most Important Pieces of Work--her three young sons.
